The Sigma Chi Canadian Foundation was formed by Canadian Sigma Chi Alumni as a registered charitable foundation to provide a tax-effective way for Canadian Sigs to support the educational pursuits of all Canadian Active Chapters. Charitable tax receipts will be issued for donations, which will be used for qualifying educational purposes.
The Foundation exists as a vehicle for local Active Chapters, Alumni Chapters and/or House Corporations to raise tax-deductible funds for educational purposes - primarily for the benefit of Active Chapters and Active brothers. Direct, individual donations to either Endowment or Current Funds are encouraged and are tax-deductible.
As of the year ending June 30, 2008, the Foundation had raised over $1,400,000 in cash & pledges for the "Making a Difference" Capital Campaign! To see more detailed information, please review our fiscal 2007-08 audited financial Statements (click here to view).
Funding
Where donations are not designated to a particular fund by the donor, they will be allocated at the discretion of the directors - to either the General Endowment Fund, or to a chapter-specific Endowment or Current Fund.
Donations to Endowment Funds will be invested in secure investment funds, with the annual income available to be distributed for qualified educational purposes. The General Endowment Fund will help to support those newer chapters with as yet limited alumni support.
The income from a chapter-specific Endowment Fund and/or the proceeds from a chapter-specific Current Fund might be used in part, to contribute towards that portion of a Chapter House used for a library, computer room or for another educational purpose (bursary, etc.). The income from Endowment Funds on the other hand, will help to fund activities such as attendance at Balfour Leadership Training Workshops.
